Henry Winning & Co was formed in 1880
from the marriage of James Hamilton and Annie Winning, hence the
name Henry Winning & Co.
James and Annie had four sons, three of which went into the business
John, William and James. John's sons James and Alex joined the firm
in the early 1930's, and ran the business until the mid to late
80's. Alex's son John and James's son Robert were brought in as
Partners in the late 70's and as the fourth generation.
Robert retired from Henry Winning & Co in September 2009. John's wife Elizabeth then joined the Company, and they are jointly running the Company as it is today.
Throughout the early part of the 20th Century, the Business was split between merchanting the Twines we could not produce on our own Machinery, and cleaning and re-selling used flour bags to the Coal and associated Trades.
Henry Winning & Co, now specialise in the Manufacture of 1st Quality Twines, and produce 95% of all the Twines we sell, on our site in Parkhead Glasgow. |
