Henry Winning and Co is still producing Flax Twines
in the traditional way. The polishing process has remained largely
unaltered, although today's machines are bigger and faster.
The Flax Yarns we currently use are sourced overseas,
mainly because there are no suitable Flax Yarn spinners left in
the UK. The twines are twisted on predominately Tube Twisting machinery,
which gives the twine a very round appearance. Polishing or Finishing
the Twine removes any roughness and we apply a paste which gives
the Twine its wax like appearance.
Flax Twines are made up on a very large range of
sizes from small 125gm to as large as 2.5 Kilo balls and reels.
We are also able to offer Twines in cut lengths although this is
only practicable for larger quantities.
